Good Afternoon Students, Parents & Guardians:
Effective January 4, 2021, the Department of Education in partnership with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority will be moving students (Grade 7–12) to remote learning for a two-week period (ending January 15, 2021). You can read more about what this means here.
“Current data indicates the risk of COVID-19 transmission in our schools remains low and we want to ensure the return to the classroom is as safe as practically possible,” said Kelvin Goertzen, Minister of Education. “By moving our grade 7 to 12 students to remote learning for the first two weeks of the new year, we are reducing the risk that may be posed as a result of a change in students’ close contacts during the winter break.”
“The period extends the winter break for an additional two weeks — equivalent to a full COVID-19 incubation period, or the span in which somebody who contracted the illness might spread it to someone else,” explained Dr. Roussin in a Press Conference last week.
Our remote learning plan is as follows:
The current day/period schedule remains in place with Schedule III: Late Start each day.
Fridays will be asynchronous learning days, where students can catch up on homework, connect with teachers virtually, and engage in personal wellness.
Students will continue to use Microsoft Teams through their school provided Office 365 account. Students will meet their teachers virtually for direct instruction.
Small groups of students will be required to come to school for in-person learning based upon their learning needs as determined by the school. Communication will be forthcoming for the students whose presence is required at school during remote learning.
Families who do not have a laptop or tablet available for student learning should reach out to
Ms. Horne at 204-831-2300.
Further information will follow in communication prior to December 18th.
We look forward to resuming in-person learning after this period of remote instruction.
