The St Pauls JV boys basketball team competed in the U of W Wesmen Classic JV basketball tournament on the weekend after only having 3 team practices under their belts.
Their first game saw them matched up against a very strong M.B.C.I team. While trying to find their stride in the first half, the Cru got down early against a barrage of offense by M.B.C.I. and were down by 20 at the half. The second half saw the team come together and put up some offense of thier own while slowing down the bleeding on defence. In the end, their first half deficit could not be overcome as they dropped the game 73-50.
Their second game pitted the Cru against Gray Academy on the B-side. The Cru came out fired up and ready to play as they burst out offensively early on. The team seemed to gel on both sides of the ball and came out with their first victory of the year defeading G.A. by a score of 57-41. This win moved then into the b-side semi-final vs. the River East Kodiaks.
Early on in the game it seemed as though either team wanted the ball as only 10 points were scored in the first quarter. What turned out to be a game of miscues and misssed opportunities for both teams ended up in an eventual victory for the Kodiaks by a score of 45-36.
Top Scorers in the tournament were Tanner Draward, Amir Ali and Randy Pennycook. Congratulations to the team fo a solid effort in their first tournament of the year.
