On Friday Dec. 12, the Junior Varsity Basketball team played their first game of the 2008-2009 season @ the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Classic tournament. With sharp shooting from Greg Gorlick, who made 6 3-point baskets and strong guard play by Quinn-Robertson Stovel, the Crusaders defeated the Maples Marauders 63-54. Joey Nitychoruk led all scorers with 22 points. Every player on the Crusaders scored.
On Saturday Dec. 13, the JV Crusaders came out with a tenacious defensive effort and managed to beat Glenlawn 60-28. Every player on the Crusader team scored in the victory.
In the evening of Dec.13, The Crusaders played a talented Fort Richmond team. Once again, the Crusaders played tough defensively from the outset. With a gutsy performance by Joey Nitychoruk, who sprained his ankle in the first half, yet still finished the game with intensity, the Crusaders won 46-39. Chris Schmidt led all scorers with 15 points.
The Crusaders will now face Oak Park in the final of the JV Wesmen Classic on Dec.28 10:30 am @ the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre.
Today, The Varsity Crusader Basketball Team will play Oak Park 4:30 @ St. Paul’s. Following this game, the JV basketball team will play Oak Park. Come out and support our Crusader basketball teams!
