March 23, 2009

This past 14 March, the downtown Winnipeg Fairmont Hotel was host to the annual Sons of Italy dinner honouring St Paul’s as this year’s  charity of choice.  Aware that the St Paul’s bursary fund provides financial assistance for students which enables them to attend the school, the Sons thought the nature of their own outreach to the community was indeed a good match with ours.  Therefore, The Sons of Italy Bursary has been created which in turn launches the beginning of a relationship of mutual support for our respective mission and vision.  On behalf of the entire St Paul’s community, I would like to express my thanks to the Sons of Italy for the $50 000 contribution to the school, five thousand of which has been designated to the Nick Laping ’61 Memorial Bursary.  All are welcome to contribute to The Sons of Italy or Nick Laping’61 Memorial Bursary or any named bursary at St Paul’s.  Currently, approximately $125 000 is required to generate the amount of tuition for one student to attend for one year.  Any named bursary that reaches this level is given the special status of an Adopt-a-Student Bursary, the details of which are on our website.

Again, blessings to the Sons of Italy for the work they do in our city and for their generosity to our future students.
